I have a dear friend who is incredibly frugal with money. And when I say frugal what I really mean is cheap. She is the frazzled mom calling every family member and friend to see who can babysit when she has an important work function to attend, instead of just hiring a babysitter. She is the one who will drive around for 45 minutes looking for parking instead of just putting the car in a lot and paying the $35 (yep, that’s how much parking is for those of you who don’t live in NYC). She is the one who has been making business plans for years but still hasn’t taken her business from a side hustle to a full-time gig because she won’t invest in hiring a business coach to help her get there.
This friend of mine is super smart and great at her work. She’s also got a nicely padded savings account. But here is the tough love reality: that’s all she will ever have if she is unwilling to ever bet on herself.

When I got the idea for Small Business Bodyguard, I was super excited. I told a bunch of my lawyer and entrepreneur friends about it. Here’s what they said:
- “No one is gonna understand legal stuff without the help of a lawyer.”
- “Aren’t you afraid you’re gonna get disbarred?”
- “Why would anyone buy legal information from you when they can buy it from a book or Google it online?”
So that hurt. But I knew my vision and I knew the potential clients who wanted to hire me, but couldn’t afford me, were looking for a solution. So I took a risk in creating that solution.
I made the investment of $15,000 and hundreds of long hours over five months creating Small Business Bodyguard. And that investment of time, money and ego (‘cause it could have been a total failure and that would have sucked) has paid off in the form of $500,000. Plus I learned the skills to build 4 other successful products earning another $100,000+ in less than a year.

Here’s the reality: betting on yourself is the best investment you can possibly make because it’s actually a sure thing. You are in complete control of the outcome. You have the power to ensure that you get the result you are looking for. How do you do that? By giving it all you got and not quitting until you reach the desired result.
So when you are asking yourself, “should I make this big investment in myself, should I take this leap of faith?” Also ask yourself, “am I ready to receive what I truly want in life? Am I ready to share my expertise? Am I ready to build a stronger business? Am I ready to make the kind of money I have always dreamt about making and that I am totally worth?”
If your answer to those questions is yes, then the answer to your question, “should I make this big investment in myself?” must also be yes.
If you are unwilling to risk your ego, your time and your wallet for what you truly want in life, then maybe you don’t truly want it. But if you are ready to pull a Beyoncé and bet on yourself, then it’s time to take the leap.
