You know those things that you’ve always wanted to do? Those deep desires you have that whisper to you during the blank space of your day? The ones that will not go away no matter how much you ignore them?
Yeah. Those.
Today I am going to ask you to do me a big ass favor: start fucking doing them. Today.
Why?
Because my friend, Scott Dinsmore, died last week. He was a living legend. He went after his dreams in a big, ass way and inspired thousands of people around the world along the way. He died while climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro with his wife, Chelsea. He was 33 years old.
I’ll say that again: Scott was only 33 years old.
Guess how old I am? That’s right: 33. His death shocked me. It shocked my entire entrepreneur community. It was and still is so hard to believe that one of us was gone.
I've only exchanged a few phone calls and a few emails with Scott but that was enough for him to become a friend and someone I think very highly of. We had talked about maybe collaborating in some way. Funny how you think you can email or call someone anytime to catch up and finish the conversation you started. Sometimes you can’t.
The sad reality that we're all faced with as we let Scott's passing sink in, is that tomorrow is FOR REAL not promised. That's not just a lame cliché anymore. I had trouble sleeping last week. I couldn't stop thinking about Scott, about his amazing contributions to the world, how he was about my age, how his work wasn't done yet and how heartbroken his wife and family must be. I am so sad for his wife and family and friends and massive community of people whose lives he impacted. At the same time, I am so grateful he was here and was bold enough to do the amazing work that he did.
May we all be bold enough to do the amazing work that we are here to do.
Which brings me back to you, lovely. What’s on your must do list? Please don’t wait to start crossing things off that list.
Here’s a few items from my list (some of which are kinda embarrassing to admit):
- Take a hip hop dance class.
- Learn to bake on a professional level.
- Travel more. Sometimes with only my husband. And sometimes with my whole squad (hubby + 3 kidlings).
- Enroll in life coach training (this one is a little scary to admit but it’s one of those nagging things that won’t go away so I must listen).
- Go to Ireland with my Mom.
- Write a traditionally published book.
- Go to a Patricia Wells cooking class in Provence.
I’ve signed up for a hip hop class at Alvin Ailey. I’ve located a cake baking workshop that I am going to take with some friends this Fall. I have a couple’s trip to Napa scheduled for November and am working with an amazing editor on the book proposal. There are other items I need to work on and I will.
I refuse to wait for retirement to live my dreams and my prayer is that you won’t wait either.
We’ve waited long enough, don’t you think?
So when are you going to take action on those things that you are yearning to do? Let me know in the comments.
